You can make this simple scarf in about 4 minutes and it requires absolutely ZERO sewing skills!

Take a 2 yard piece of voile (Our voile is 100% cotton. Voile is a soft, sheer-ish fabric that drapes beautifully.) cut it in half long ways, remove the selvedge edges. Throw in the washing machine on cool with your next load of laundry. Throw in the dryer. Trim the long strings that come from the fabric unraveling a bit in the wash. Wrap around your neck and sport your new, beautiful spring scarf! Bonus: you have an extra scarf to give to a friend!

Nearly all of our new spring yarn is in and we wanted to give you an overview of all the new stuff!

Sublime Baby Silk & Bamboo DK

Baby Silk & Bamboo DK by Sublime is back with new, richer colors! We carried this yarn last year and everyone loved it! The combination of Bamboo and Silk makes for the BEST drape. We love this for summer tops and baby things. AND, the best thing is it’s machine washable!

Mirasol Hap’i

We’re now fully stocked with Mirasol Hap’i including new colors for spring. This is my favorite yarn for kid sweaters. The 100% cotton holds up in the washing machine wonderfully and I love how the thick and thin texture knits up. My kids both have sweaters out of this yarn and I have washed and dried them countless times and they still look great.

(This sweater is knit from Knitting Pure and Simple pattern #214)

Sublime Tussah Silk DK

Sublime Tussah Silk is back too. We could barely keep this yarn on the shelves last summer, it was so popular! Sublime has added new colors in a richer pallet which are beautiful! We especially love the texture of this yarn. Stop by the store for a free pattern to make a lacey, summery scarf out of two balls of Tussah Silk.

Duke Silk

We just got a new shipment of Duke Silk. This yarn comes from India and is so beautiful – how could 100% silk yarn not be beautiful? We have a beautiful spiral scarf made from one skien hanging in our window.

Mirasol Asikita

Asikita is a new Mirasol yarn. It’s a mostly cotton blend with just a little bit of alpaca to provide some drape. The chainette construction is one of my favorite – it holds up to just about anything – especially lots and lots of ripping out. We also love the pattern booklet for this yarn – lots of great summery sweaters. (The cool thing about Mirasol yarns is that a portion from every sale goes directly towards supporting a school in Peru.)

Berroco Origami

Origami is back in stock with some new colors too! We love this Cotton/Linen/Nylon/Acrylic blend for summer cardigans (check out Peg’s origami cardigan hanging up at the shop!).

Recycled Silk Ribbon Yarn

The Silkindian recycled silk ribbon yarn also comes from India. One skein makes a great spring scarf.

Araucania Lontue

I might be the most excited about this yarn from Araucania. Lontue is a cotton/linen, thick/thin blend dyed in the most amazing colors! One skein will make a beautiful scarf. Christina is working on a pattern for a summery shawl too!

Lago is a new yarn from Berroco. It’s made from viscose (rayon) and linen and is machine washable. It comes in beautiful solid colors and could be substituted for any pattern calling for Origami. This yarn is made with the chainette construction too.

Versa is another new yarn from Berroco. It’s a cotton blend “tape” yarn that knits up variegated. Berroco sent us a great pattern booklet that supports the yarn and we will be teaching a sweater made from it this summer.

Now is the time to stock up for spring, I have a feeling several of these yarns will fly off the shelves!

There is something about knitting things for men. A sweater is a huge commitment (and often an equally huge expense). Many men refuse to wear scarves. But a hat…Yes, a hat is something that will not only be appreciated, but more often than not, worn frequently. I love knitting hats for men. They aren’t as particular about whether the hat is itchy, or makes their hair flat after they take it off. They appreciate that it keeps their noggins warm when they’re kindly scraping ice from their wives’ windshields (not that I would expect mine to do that, of course). This hat was so fun and easy to knit and turned out great. The Noro Silk Garden is gorgeous and adds just enough color to make the hat a little funky. The Cascade 220 is such a workhorse yarn….Warm, wonderful to knit with, tons of yardage. You can easily make two hats with a skein of each.

pssst….Watch for this hat to be offered as a class on the next class schedule (Jan-March).

This is one of our favorite, new, free patterns. This hat can be made for a baby, toddler, or for that matter, made larger for an adult. We used Cascade’s Cotton Rich which is a fabulous cotton blend that we love for kids. Ribbon embellishments are everywhere these days. The wonderful part of this hat is that one can change the ribbon for every occasion. Whimsical ribbons definitely make this a “hat for all seasons”. Knit this pattern and include a yard of several different ribbons for a unique and special gift!
