Ushya Hat

We love this free pattern from Knitting Fever for a slouchy hat.  It knits up quickly only using one skein of Mirasol Ushya. What could be better for a quick gift?

Introducing Light Gives Heat

One of the things that’s always been really important to us at Tangle is to support women. We’ve always carried yarn from companies that support women in different countries as well as yarn from local women. Because of our desire to support women around the world, we are really excited to partner with Light Gives Heat! LGH is a local organization that has been supporting over 100 women in Africa for over 5 years. By supporting cottage industry crafts LGH is able to bring fashion-forward jewelry to the West. We’re thrilled to carry a selection of LGH jewelry and bags and we think you’ll be thrilled with our very affordable selection! What better way to support an amazing organization than buying jewelry?!!

Christmas in July: our favorite gifts Part 1

Even though it’s blazing hot outside right now, it’s really time to start thinking about hand made Christmas gifts. We’ve all had grand plans to hand make all of our Christmas gifts, but the holiday sneaks up on us and we either end up giving up the idea of a handmade holiday or we loose copious amounts of sleep, driving ourselves a little crazy trying to get every single gift done.

This year we want to give you a jump on your holiday crafting.  If you start now, you’ll be able to enjoy the holiday season without enduring “crazy crafting stress disorder.”  Here is the first of our favorite gifts:

Fingerless Mittens
people young and old appreciate a fingerless mitt. They are great for multi tasking in the cold months and they don’t show any signs of going out of style any time soon. We have endless patterns for fingerless mittens, here are a few of our favorites:

Cabled Fingerless Mittens – a free pattern from Tangle. We love this pattern because it uses one skein of either Misti Alpaca Chunky or Berroco Peruvia Quick AND it knits up quickly so everyone you know can have a pair of gorgeous cabled mitts!

Mittens two ways: This is super simple pattern that doesn’t require purling. We like to teach this pattern for people who are just entering the world of knitting in the round.  The fingerless version of this pattern only requires one skein of Malabrigo Aquarella.

First Fingerless Mittens: This is a great pattern for beginners and if you use fun yarn, these simple mittens look anything but simple.

One Cable Mitts: This free pattern from Blue Sky Alpacas uses just one skein of Worsted Hand Dyes. (And if you’re not sure how to make these, be looking for them on our Fall Class Schedule which will be available early August 2012.)

Sporty Mitts: Another free one from Blue Sky Alpacas. We love these as a great way to learn simple fair isle while also making a gift!
